ABOUT

Born in Madrid (1995), A. Crespo Barba is a Spanish composer and educator. He graduated with honors in Contemporary Music Composition at Escuela TAI (Madrid). In 2019, he obtained a Master in Composition at Codarts (Rotterdam), graduating with a Cum Laude.

He has participated in different festivals in The Netherlands, such as Flamenco Biënnale Nederland, Grachtenfestival, Gaudeamus Muziekweek, November Music, Dutch Double Bass Festival, O-Festival and New Music Conference (where he was awarded with the Best New Composer Pitch Prize) among others. Outside of The Netherlands, he has premiered pieces in festivals and events such as Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in England, New Baltic Festival in Lithuania, Musika-Música in Spain and Cuore di Spagna in Italy. Since 2023, he has been teaching at the Conservatory of Rotterdam as member of the Artistic Research Department.

His music is a mix of many influences that go from experimental music to the oldest flamenco forms, the latter being the main area of research during his past years. Nowadays, Crespo Barba's practice shows a strong interest in the perception of time and the tensions generated by static, gradually shifting passages of sound. The interdisciplinary character of his work has led him to collaborate with experimental choreographers, visual artists or fashion designers such as Mateja Drev, MAISON the FAUX, Lukas Karvelis, Boris Edrosa and LITTLE WOTAN.
