CÁNTICO V(2021)

CÁNTICO V is a thirty minutes stage piece for electronic music (4 channels fixed media), video and performer. This work was created through Crespo Barba’s previous research on cantaor flamenco’s role in contemporary art manifestations –on the understanding that flamenco is a conglomerate of social, cultural and performative expressions.  The project rethinks the role of flamenco singers from a different point of view, using their theatricality and their interaction with their environment as idiosyncratic elements to explore new expressions  – can a cantaor flamenco continue being so without singing?  This piece was done in collaboration with visual artist Dremat.

CÁNTICO V was commissioned by Flamenco Biënnale Nederland and November Music, having its first performance in November 2021 at Verkadefabriek, in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. This creation was possible thanks to the support of the Dutch Fonds for Performing Arts and Escuela TAI in Madrid
